Knights Academy Family Annual Basketball Festival
10/11/2010

On the 9th November Knights Academy Family joined together with schools from the Trinity Family for their annual Basketball festival. Taking part were Launcelot Primary, Good Shepherd Primary, Merlin Primary, Lee Manor primary, and St Winifreds Junior school. A last minute withdrawal from New Woodlands left us with a round robin Tournament of 5 schools. Pupils arrived at Knights Academy at 1.00am and were met by year 13 young leaders who gave the teams an excellent warm up and some skills practice before the afternoons proceedings began. The first competition of the afternoon was the Shooting contest. 5 minutes of shooting madness where teams had to shoot as many baskets as they could. The enthusiasm was electrifying and baskets plentiful. A huge well done to Team Launcelot who scored a massive 42 baskets in the time allowed and won the competition.

After this the main event of the afternoon got underway. Teams who were left without a match in the draw were well looked after and given some great Basketball practice from the leaders and all the matches were played with the usual enthusiasm, skill and encouragement from all teams regardless of the scores.  The level of ability demonstrated at this event improves every year and there were some truely jaw dropping moments to be seen during the afternoon.  The final positions were 3rd St Winifreds Juniors, 2nd Launcelot, and first place a well deserved Good Shepherd C of E primary school. A massive well done to all the players for their efforts and competitivness during the afternoon. Thanks to all the staff and parents who came to watch and a massive thanks to the leaders who ran the warm-ups and refereed the matches. Leader of the afternoon Mathew Porter. Well done Mat you were awesome.
